New Facility at Cumberland Heights Opens Wednesday; Increases Adolescent Treatment Capacity by 50 Percent

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) June 27, 2007

Cumberland Heights (www.cumberlandheights.org), one of the nation’s oldest and most respected alcohol and drug treatment facilities, will open the 24,000 square foot Hazel Hawkins Martin Memorial Adolescent Residence at its flagship River Road campus in west Nashville Wednesday June 27, 2007 at 10 a.m..

The Hazel Hawkins Martin Memorial Adolescent Residence will host 12 bedrooms with 24 beds, lounge and administrative areas, increasing adolescent inpatient capability by 50% and allowing Cumberland Heights to offer, for the first time, inpatient treatment stays of 60, 90 and 120 days in addition to the traditional 30-day inpatient treatment periods. Research and practice have shown that longer stays in treatment dramatically improve an adolescent’s chances for sobriety. This comes at a time when other centers are cutting the number of adolescent beds, said Jim Moore, Cumberland Heights Chief Executive Officer.

The expansion will allow Cumberland Heights to continue the formal shift in its emphasis from primarily substance abuse treatment to ongoing recovery.

The new Hazel Hawkins Martin Memorial Adolescent Residence complements the six existing buildings on the 40-year old Cumberland Heights campus, employing the same architectural lines and the same aesthetic style. Most notable among the architectural features of the campus are low-rise clapboard style structures with dormers on the roof and shutters on the windows.

Founded in 1966, Cumberland Heights has treated more than 70,000 patients and has directly touched the lives of more than 200,000 family members of patients. Patients come from all 50 states and a number of foreign countries and they range from indigent and unemployed individuals, business people and government employees to nationally recognized personalities from the sports and entertainment industries.

Cumberland Heights’ primary mission is to treat substance abuse, which the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation characterizes as “the nation’s number one health problem” costing over $ 144 billion annually.

Cumberland Heights (www.cumberlandheights.org) operates eight locations, including its flagship facility, a 177-acre campus located at 8283 River Road, 16 miles west of downtown Nashville.
