New Survey: 51% Under 21-Year Olds Say They Will Drink New Year’s Eve
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 30, 2010
A December 27-29 survey of 151 persons under 21 revealed that 51% plan to drink on New Year’s Eve, and another 27% say they “may drink.” Thirty-five percent of the 147 parents of those under 21 surveyed, think their children will drink and another 5% believe their children may drink.
According to recovering alcoholic Jeffrey Christian, founder of The Number 12 Foundation and executive search firm CTPartners, “The reality is that more than half of those under 21 will drink New Year’s Eve. Yet, just 1/3 of their parents think their underage child will drink. It shows the communication between the generations. But more startling is that 3% of teen drinkers will drive and think they can defy the odds.”
Christian noted that half these New Year’s Eve drinkers are prime candidates to become problem drinkers, and 10% chronic alcoholics. “And, if there is alcoholism in the family, the odds are gravely against the teens drinker to avoid succumbing to the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction,” he said.
