Newark’s Integrity House Opens Facility for Women and Children

Newark, N.J. (PRWEB) June 26, 2009

Newark’s substance abuse rehabilitation center Integrity House, a nationally recognized non-profit that has been championed by Mayor Cory Booker and global media icon Oprah Winfrey, announces the opening of the Integrity Women’s Outpatient Services.

The new center, located at 659 Martin Luther King Boulevard, will serve as an outpatient service facility designed to encourage recovering female drug addicts to provide their children with a stable family environment and a sober, healthy mother. Newark Mayor Cory Booker will speak at the event to show his enthusiasm for the worthy cause.

Oprah Winfrey’s generous 0,000 donation, along with gifts from the City of Newark and other private donors, has allowed Integrity House to expand the Integrity Initiative for Women and Children.

“We at Integrity House are so thankful to the City of Newark, Oprah Winfrey, and the many other donors who have brought this project to fruition. There is a desperate need for this type of facility and drug treatment services for women, and this program can give them hope to begin anew as sober, self-sufficient mothers for their children. This is about keeping families together and striving for long-term recovery,” said David Kerr, founder and president of Integrity House.

The innovative program addresses the unique needs of women through family stabilization, substance abuse treatment and intensive case management. A dire and relatively unmet need for treatment of mothers with their children exists throughout New Jersey. Integrity House’s ultimate goal with this program is family reunification with a capable and safe mother who is clean, sober, healthy and self-sufficient.

“I would like to thank David Kerr for his vision as the founder of Integrity House, which is celebrating its 40th year of providing substance abuse treatment and support services for over 2,000 adult and adolescent addicts annually. The City of Newark is proud to be a partner with Integrity House and is grateful to the many philanthropists, including Oprah Winfrey, who supported this project which will continue to empower Newark’s most vulnerable populations,” said Mayor Cory Booker.

Integrity Initiative for Women and Children will provide outpatient treatment and support services for 60 recovering female drug addicts and their children. Each resident will follow a five year treatment plan that has been used by Integrity House over the years
