Heroin Abuse: Police Dog Honored

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Police Commissioner Lawrence W. Mulvey honored K-9 Maverick and his handler,Officer Michael LaSala, on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. On March 18, the Nassau County Police Department Narcotics/Vice Bureau were investigating as part of Operation HALT (Heroin Abuse Location and Targeting), when they attempted to arrest a suspect for sale and possession of narcotics. During the arrest, K-9 Maverick was injured when he was attacked by another dog, an Akita which was later found to be unlicensed.
