Psychiatric Wards in Hospitals – How Do They Operate?
Question by Elven: Psychiatric Wards In Hospitals – How Do They Operate?
I’ve been trying to research them, but I can really only find info on Psychiatric hospitals, but I want to know more about the wards in regular hospitals dedicated to psychiatric care. The layout and how patients are treated is of especial interest. Any sources would be fantastic.

I spent time in a psych ward on two different occasions. Both were about 2 weeks. I was on suicide watch, so I had a worker sitting with me, following me, watching me 24/7. There was scheduled times for checking vitals (in the morning) then scheduled times for meals. Throughout the day, there were some scheduled meetings (like NA, AA, dual diagnosis) – group therapy sessions. The rest of the time, we’d either be watching TV, hanging out, and for me, I slept most of the time because I was so drugged up. I was in a hospital close to Philadelphia PA, however, I would imagine that psych wards across the USA are all pretty similar.
