Q&A: How Long Is “Prolonged Use” for Medications?
Question by Lou: How long is “prolonged use” for medications?
So many dosage statements and advisers use the phrase “prolonged use.” But how long is that? Speaking of acetaminophen. And particularly by a rather heavy drinker; 8 – 10 drinks most days – vodka based. Other sources I have read say that the effects are worse if the med is taken after drinking but while the alcohol is still in the system than if it is taken before drinking starts. Can someone explain that? Thanks

Prolonged use depends on the medication and the reason for taking it. Acetaminophen is said to be hard on the liver when taken with alcohol so the combination is going to be much worst.
