Q&A: Is the War in a Iraq Really a War Now? Wouldn’t It Be More of an Occupation Now?

Question by The Wise: Is the war in a Iraq really a war now? Wouldn’t it be more of an occupation now?
The war in Iraq has been going on since 2003, and was certainly a war when it started since it was Sadam’s regime vs the American government. But Saddam has been out of power and dead for quite sometimes now and we’ve not found any weapons of mass destruction.

So isn’t this war now more of an occupation? We’re fighting a loose network of terrorists, but certainly not a government or state power. It seems like the war in Iraq has become a catch-all phrase for problems in Iraq, similar to phrases like “the war on drugs” or “the war on poverty,” neither of which makes much sense if you think about it since poverty is a condition, not some nation. It wouldn’t make much sense to declare a “war on depression” since that too is a condition that isn’t going to leave, but I digress.

So do you think the war in Iraq is no longer a war, but an occupation by the US and some of its allied forces?
