Questions About Rehab?

My friend has a drug addiction. I’m not sure of all of the drugs he might have been taking, but I do know that he did marijuana. He was also suicidal for at least a while, although I don’t know if he still is or if the rehab program knows that.
Anyways, he has been in rehab for 5 months now. He got to go home for the 4th of July, and got to see my friend and she said he looks much better. (I live in another state so I couldn’t see him). So, I have a few questions.

1. Since he has been in rehab for 5 months, does this mean he is in long-term rehab? If so, about how much longer will he be in rehab?
2. What progress does he have to make before he is released?
3. What is it like in rehab? What is he allowed to do? Please any detail you can think of!
4. Is he allowed to go home for all holidays? Which ones?
5. What kind of things should I write to him in a letter, and is he able to write back?

I know these are a lot of questions. If you can only answer some, that’s fine. Thank you sooo much in advanced.
