San Antonio Hosts Nat’l Addiction Recovery Forum, September 20th at UT Health Science Center

September is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
San Antonio will host the community forum “We Recover Together: Family,
Friends and Community” at UT Health Science Center Medical School,
Room 309L on Thursday, September 20, 7-9 pm. Featured speakers will include:
Jim Atkinson- noted Texas journalist, author and contributing editor to Texas
Monthly magazine speaking about his personal road to recovery and Susan
Yerkes-San Antonio Express-News columnist recounting her own victory over addiction.
An open discussion forum will follow with expert panelists representing
treatment, intervention and prevention from Metropolitan Health Care District,
Patrician Movement, UTHSCSA-START Center, Methodist Healthcare Ministries,
Community First Healthcare, Family Service Association, University Health
System and the San Antonio Police Department. The event is presented by
San Antonio Demand Treatment!, a community coalition selected as one of
16 cities nationwide to receive a grant to support initiatives to increase
treatment for alcohol and drug addiction.
