Should I Hire Legal Representation?

Question by somethingoranother: Should I hire legal representation?
I am having issues at the apartment I live in. After a recent complex-wide “rehab”, I have been left with several items that need correction because of the lack of forsight by the general contractor. I have submitted pictures and have documentation of all phone calls and verbal conversations. I was promised two weeks ago by the new manager that a new contractor had been hired to correct issues because I was not the only one with damage. I have heard absolutely nothing, and no attempt has been made to make reparis. This has been going on since May. I have lived here for 3 years, have never had any issues and have always paid my rent on time. My neighbor’s apartment is, on the other hand, perfect from the rehab. He had one minor issue and the manager waived and entire month of rent for him! I have a broken toilet, a washing machine that was improperly installed which caused wide spread water damage, holes in my walls, broken cabinet boxes, and cracked window. Am I being discriminated against? Are all apartment issues covered by stand landlord/tenant laws? I think I have been more than patient with this and desereve to be treated like everyone else. Any advice?

See if your city or town has a mediation center where disputes like this might be resolved. Otherwise, yes I would talk to an attorney. If I could afford it. And I’d be looking for a new place to live.
