Tarrant Council Hosts Event to Reduce Stigma of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Featuring Songwriter Paul Williams

Â? Tarrant Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse is pleased to announce that Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe winning songwriter Paul Williams will be the featured speaker at the 17th Annual Stars in Recovery luncheon on May 26.

Williams, whose standards have been recorded by such musical icons as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Ray Charles, David Bowie, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, The Carpenters, Luther Vandross and Diana Ross, is recognized as one of AmericaÂ?s most prolific and gifted lyricists and composer. Sober for 14 years, WilliamsÂ? humorous observations of his own life experiences are augmented by the education and knowledge he gained through his studies and certification from UCLA as a Certified Drug Rehabilitation Counselor.

The annual Stars in Recovery event is one of Tarrant CouncilÂ?s primary events that seeks to reduce the stigma of drug and alcohol abuse that keeps many people from seeking treatment. The event will be held at the Renaissance Worthington Hotel from 11:30 a.m. Â? 1:30 p.m.

This year, Tarrant Council will honor Pat Summerall for his contributions to the agency and its mission. In his honor, Tarrant Council has also announced that an annual award will be named after him. The Pat Summerall Award will honor an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to reducing drug and alcohol abuse in the community.
