Traveling Into Canada – Big Question(s)…?
Question by Walton: Traveling into Canada – big question(s)…?
Soon I may have a job that requires periodic travel to Toronto (I’m American)…Reading on the internet I have discovered mixed information regarding the admissibility of those people with prior DUI/DWI convictions…Now the good news is, I DON’T have either one of the two…But it has made me cruious about some things…
My questions are:
1) Can someone please provide clarity as to this apparent restriction ? Would someone with a DWI/DUI be admitted into Canada or not ? I’m just curious…It seems to be such a common offense there would be a LOT of American business people denied access if this was the case.
2) This probably isn’t even worth mention, but over a decade ago I did have – my only brush with the law – a “minor in possession of alcohol” (which wouldn’t be an offense in Canada anyone at the age I was at the time)…To the best of my knowledge this was even dropped and there is no record of it…Would there be any chance this could stand in my way of entry ?
Thanks in advance.

The only way is to wait 5 years, then go through the “rehabilitation” process and get a “pardon.” Expensive. As to your second question…no problem. You were a minor and it was over 10 years ago, and as you said, it would not be an offense in Canada. Yup, bet there are lots of people who “need” to travel to Canada and find out they cannot. As Mama always said, “Actions have consequences.”
