Alright,
I’ve read countless posts regarding access into Canada while having a DUI, and I’m constantly finding mixed responses. I’m currently living in Washington and I have friends in Vancouver that I’d like to visit. I received my DUI in Illinois in 2005 and I will be eligible for “criminal rehabilitation” shortly, but I wasn’t convicted of the charge and instead received supervision. It’s unbelievable how long these things can haunt you for. Some people have stated that supervision is fine and they won’t turn you down, other’s say that you’re going to be turned around, and I think others are confused about the whole “supervision” and “conviction” thing and they don’t know what they’re writing about. So, what’s the deal?
In regards to that last comment . . . The DUI wasn’t a conviction it was a supervision. A different charge. I wasn’t convicted of a DUI and the supervision period ended 5 years ago. That’s what I’m having a problem with understanding, I wasn’t convicted so am I barred from entry?
Simply put, Criminal rehabilitation is waiting five years since your case was closed, requesting an fbi background check, requesting a criminal record from each state you’ve lived in for the last ten years, preparing information regarding the criminal law and its effect on your disposition, certified copies of your disposition, blah blah blah, and finally filling out a criminal rehabilitation form and paying $ 200 for canada to process paperwork. You are going to get something worse than supervision if you take off without permission.

You may not have been convicted of the DUI but it sure sounds like you did it.
