Dual diagnosis programs are services specially aimed to treat people with dual diagnosis. Having dual diagnosis would mean that the person has a personality disorder and a substance abuse disorder at the same time. Research shows that for a patient to recover from dual diagnosis, he must be treated for both disorders simultaneously. Treating only one will not mean that the other illness will be treated as well. Dual diagnosis programs make it possible for people with dual diagnosis to recover from both disorders and regain their normal lives.
