An addiction is something you are unable to stop. Your body doesn’t need the drug, you are simply addicted to it either psychologically or physically.

If you are dependent on a drug it means you have to take it to keep you going in some way. The drug has a beneficial effect on you but you are not addicted.

When you’re addicted you don’t realize you have a problem and when you’re dependent, you know you have a problem but you don’t do anything to fix it.
