What Job Can I Get With a BA in Psychology and 7 Years Experience?
Question by robine_21: What job can I get with a BA in psychology and 7 years experience?
Ok, so I have a bachelors in psychology and have been working as a TSS (therapuetic staff support) for 7 years now. I am making a 13.00hr. This job is also not consistant with a schedule that is constantly changing, in order to get 30 hrs I have to be gone for about 45 a week. I cant take it any more. I need a more stable job for my family. I am hoping with 7 years of experience in th emental health field I can find something better, but what am a qualified to do with a ba and 7 years experience. Please help, I am the point where I am totally frustrated. Also i am considering going back to school online but I dont know if it would be best to do something else or stick with psychology and get a masters in that. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

That’s really about all you can do in the field with a bachelors’. A “psych tech” position at a psychiatric hospital is a similar job with similar pay. The bottom line, is that you are licensable with nothing at the baccalaureate level (save “alcohol and drug counselor” in SOME states).
Your best bet is to bite the bullet and continue on to get your Master’s. Otherwise, you’re going to spend the rest of your life working as a “peon” for someone else.
Is it fair? Probably not. However, that’s the reality of it. You just cannot do much in the field of mental health with a B.A./B.S. in psych (at least not in the way of independent practice).
Hang in there,
