What’s the Deal With Rock Vs.Rap?

Question by jkidd16: What’s the deal with Rock Vs.Rap?
I played New Divide from linkin park in the car with my friends (who like rap and hip hop), and they’re like “are you depressed?” “you need some medication” “see a therapist”
I was like WTF!? it seems like the people that like rap and hip hop think all types of rock, metal, etc… are for depressed people. they shun it completely New Divide is a great song, and they think its for depressed people. but the thing that i dont understand is that lots of rap artists talk about drugs, alcohol, woman, and other useless crap, but they dont see that the song talking about “blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol” is talking about some really bad things. and lil wayne talks about not very nice things either…… why do most people think that way? just want your thoughts
and rock definitely takes more skill than rap. you all know that. but i do like some rap songs like Remember the Name-fort minor and Lose Yourself-eminem
to Umz is here: I watched the video. it was appropriate and the lyrics were good.but i never said that the rap and hip hop songs on the radio are what makes all of rap and hip hop. i said most songs from rap and hip hop talk about drugs, money, woman, and other bad stuff like that. there are very few songs that have good meaning. like remember the name and lose yourself. those raps are AWESOME!

Well, i see what you’re saying. the reason most people generalize stuff
that way usually is because they don’t like it and so they never explore the genre. I’m a pretty open minded person but i hate it when people judge things they hardly know anything about. But i’m not like that, y’know? i listen to different genres so i’m clearly not biased about that.
