Question by E C: Why did marijuana become illegal?
Marijuana use has been traced back thousands of years for hemp and even for its effects. Why did the plant, at some point, become a ‘terrible’ thing? Meanwhile things like tobacco give little effect and have numerous health risks (Not that marijuana is 100% safe, but it is however much less harmful than tobacco.)

Because of a scare campaign rooted in the fact that governments couldn’t find a way to tax it properly.
