Why Do So Many People Rely on Pills Nowadays to Get Treated for Their “emotional” Problems?
Question by Nabi: Why do so many people rely on pills nowadays to get treated for their “emotional” problems?
I’m a 17 year old boy and..Yeah, I’ve asked a LOT of questions corresponding to some emotional problems I have..And in every one of those questions, there is always someone asking me to see a professional, and be evaluated for an anti depressant drug or something..
It’s ANNOYING. Why? Why are people like that? I don’t want to start a fight, or put anyone down but..Whatever happened to solving your own problems? You do what you wanna do, and I do what I wanna do..
And I speak from experience…Drugs don’t really help. At least, they don’t help me..I just find that they suppress the problem, rather then cure it, and if I stop taking them, then I go even crazier then I would without the pills..
I cured my own so called “depression” by myself..Okay, it took awhile, and it was hard, but..It felt really good to do it. The only help I needed was from my friends. I don’t ask this question to offend anyone..
I’m asking it because I want to know why people rely so much on this “medicine” these days. Be it Aderol, or Abilify, or Cymbalta..(Pretty sure one of those are for periods..I don’t know. I’ve seen too many commercials)
I’m no psychologist, but I’ve helped a LOT of teenagers with their problems..Even a problem where a girl was being abused by her own mother..I mean, I guess you could say its my hobby. Even if they’re all my friends..
I’ve seen my friends on these prescribed drugs, and I’ve seen them go crazier then usual..As a matter of fact, ONE friend of mine even committed suicide while she was taking anti-depressants.
And when I was younger, I had to take Ridiline for my ADHD. And it made me sad, and dull.
My parents took me off it, and what do ya know? Years later, that’s who I became. Sad and dull. Because of my depression..
I’m sure I’ve rambled enough..Why do people take this stuff? It’s understandable when a person is taking them when they’re literally tearing off their own nails, or murdering people..But besides that? I don’t understand why things can’t go naturally anymore.
I think this question is against the guidelines in one way or another..
But how else am I going to ask this?
And furthermore, how inspirational is that?
“I cured my depression by taking drugs”. and then the person loses the prescription one day.
He ends up in the news because he shot his own wife, and raped his own daughter.
Jesus…
And what of Seung Hui Cho? The gunman in the Virginai Tech?
I’ve read his article and..No one ever helped him.
The clinic kept diagnosing him with these things. They kept saying he was this and that.
But they never got down to the PROBLEM.
That’s the thing. They don’t DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. The drugs help them, and thats it..
If you’re speaking about chemical imbalances, then believe me..I have a THOUSAND of them in my brain..
And I’ve overcome every one of them without the use of drugs..
@Joes Mama..
“Knowledge is power!”
I like that phrase XD
So instead of earning my wisdom through hard work that’s worth it, I should do it by taking pills that’ll make me happy in a single week?
Look, I have no problem with pills. Albeit, that IS false..But anyways..
I just think we should work on our problems NATURALLY. THE NATURAL WAY.
I don’t mean to get touchy here but..
I’ve attempted suicide..COUNTLESS TIMES.
I threatened to kill people..I had hatred that I directed towards EVERYONE.
I asked myself everyday “WHY WONT EVERYBODY JUST DIE?!”
That was me..Now? I don’t feel any anger, nor hatred..
You guys shouldn’t underestimate your own conscience..Your own power..
@Elmbeard, don’t underestimate a teenagers emotions..I’ve dealt with teens that are from the ghetto..Teenagers who’ve been raped and impregnated, teenagers who just lost a family member who protected them..
Back 5 or 10 years ago, your justification would be acceptable. But with the world we’re living in now, teenagers are becoming more depressed.
Things have changed..And I believe that this state of normality that everyone believes in so callously is just a way to justify those “stupid emotional teenagers who don’t know what anything is like”
And I wouldn’t use the term “perfectly normal” for someone like myself..I’ve been through that dark void that everyone else has endured too..Though, not to the extent that others have been through..
Also, you used the term “misdiagnosed”..
What? Do you know not believe the things that I claim to be true? Is it hard to see that not every teenager is an ignorant imbecile who only believes in themselves?
